Amazon (Amazonia CFA) Cattery does
hybrid breedings.
We are using ordinary but very carefully selected
and health checked Domestic Short Hair cats to widen our Sphynx
pool. By Choosing a cat we Deselect for certain traits, oriental body
type, points, blue eyes, white, anything that might indicate a purebred in
the recent past.
The Sphynx originate from domestic cats as
natural mutations. So the original ancestors of the Sphynx where domestic
cats.
Most kittens born will live as beloved Pets,
possibly in your home. It is vital that we as breeders not just breed for
type and beauty, but also for physical and mental health.
Hybrid breeding with Domestic Short hair is a
very expensive form of breeding.
First one has to find a suitable domestic cat, I
use a cat which was to be scheduled for euthanasia since no home could be
found. The cat usually comes
from a shelter to my Vet and then to me.
Then the cat will be checked for health. After
the girl is old enough to breed, it will be bred to a Sphynx . In
the first generation all kittens will look like ordinary cats but will
have ONE gene for the Sphynx or Trait. When one of those kittens is
bred to another Sphynx one can have a 50% chance of having
hairless kittens in the litter.
Those are the valuable F2 kittens and those will
be used to breed into the existing pure bred line, to strengthen the gene
pool. Out crossing is only success full if one works from a strong
and healthy Sphynx line that is proven to be uniform in type. Then the
domestic cat becomes like a unpainted canvas one can paint a beautiful
picture of a Sphynx onto . We ONLY outcross for vigor. Type , color and
hairlessness will be, and must be found within the Sphynx gene pool.
All the other resulting kittens will be altered
and sold as pets to people who like a ordinary looking cat but with a
Sphynx . These kittens will be cared for and loved just like
any other kitten at Amazonia Cattery. We call them Sphynx in fur
coats.
Amazonia Cattery maintains a waiting list for
people who would like such a kitten, please contact us if you are
interested in a hybrid kitten or older cat. |
